IMPACT Silver Spring to Host Network Night Focused on Immigration Issues on March 7

Community Action partner IMPACT Silver Spring will host a Network Night on March 7 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM to address immigration issues. Residents are encouraged to attend this program to discuss important issues affecting the immigrant community.

Now Accepting Nominations for the 2017 Community Action Awards


The Community Action Board is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Community Action Awards and Celebration, which will be held on May 23. Please click HERE to submit a nomination online or click HERE to download the nomination form.

Nominations are being accepted in the following award categories:

  • Marcia Plater Community Action Adult Volunteer Award – This award honors the contributions of an adult whose volunteer services help lower-income County residents move towards or achieve self-sufficiency.  This award also honors volunteers whose advocacy efforts help to reduce poverty in the County.
  • Marcia Plater Community Action Youth Volunteer Award – This award honors the contributions of a youth volunteer whose services help lower-income County residents move towards or achieve self-sufficiency.  This award also honors volunteers whose advocacy efforts help to reduce poverty in the County.
  • Henry L. Dixon Community Action Award for an Organization – This award recognizes the contributions of a local organization that promotes self-sufficiency for adults in the County and helps to reduce poverty. 
  • Gerald Roper, Sr. Community Action Award for a Youth Organization – This award recognizes the contributions of a local organization serving lower income youth in the County, which improves future success for youth and develops leadership skills. *Extra points awarded for organizations that are youth-led.

Office of Human Rights Civil Rights Tour April 8 - 16

The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights invites residents to participate in the 2017 Civil Rights Tour, April 8 - 16. The tour includes visits to numerous historical sites that played an important role in the Civil Rights Movement. The registration deadline is March 8.

Immigration Information Session on Feb. 8 at 3 PM

Immigration Information Session for Community Providers and Partners

Hosted by the Montgomery County Office of Community Partnerships 


Information session planned to address residents' questions and concerns around immigration and the impact in our community. 

Session will begin with remarks from County Executive Ike Leggett, followed by a panel discussion with leaders from the Montgomery County Police Department; Montgomery County Public Schools; Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of CASA; and a representative from the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC).
