African American Health Program's World AIDS Day Event - Dec. 1

The African American Health Program, part of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Community Affairs, will host a special event for World AIDS Day on Thursday, December 1, from 7 - 8 PM at the East County Community Center. The event will include a presentation by Carolyn Massey, Executive Director of Older Women Embracing Life.

Book Drive to Support Children in the Long Branch Community



Community Action's TESS Center and Linkages to Learning have joined with First Book and its supporters to launch a new book drive on behalf of the children it serves in the Long Branch community. 

The goal is to raise $3,000 to bring 1,000 new books to be distributed to the children through Linkages to Learning, TESS, and its partners. So far the drive has already raised over $1,000!

TESS to Host Information Session About Social Security - Dec. 6, 6 - 8 PM

The TESS Center will host an informational session with staff from the Social Security Administration to answer residents' questions about Social Security benefits. This event is open to the public. Please note that the session will be conducted in Spanish.

CAA VITA Now Scheduling Appointments for 2016 Taxes

Community Action's VITA program is now scheduling appointments for 2016 taxes. Residents earning $55,000 or less may schedule an appointment to have their taxes prepared FOR FREEAppointments are available at four locations throughout the County. 

2017 Schedule:

  • GAITHERSBURG: Mondays, 2 - 8 PM, 630 East Diamond Avenue
  • SILVER SPRING: Tuesdays, 3 - 8 PM, 8513 Piney Branch Road
  • ROCKVILLE: Wednesdays, 11 AM - 8 PM, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 3302
  • WHEATON: Fridays, 11 AM - 5 PM, 2424 Reedie Drive, 1st Floor
